What is comedy?

Comedy is so subjective. What you find funny another person may find it ridiculous or even boring. What kind of comedy do you like? I am a big fan of nonsense humor. When I see a good sketch, a true knee slapper, I laugh so hard that afterwards I need to share the experience with the people around me. To illustrate my point , take a look at this sketch from the Stephen Fry & Hugh Laurie comedy hour and tell me whether you find it funny. Also, if you care to comment, why not add your own video link so that we can have an idea of the kind of comedy that you like. I'm sure that we are all going to have a ball.

When were you first bitten by the music bug?

Well, to me it happened when I was 6 or 7 years old. My mother took me to a Disney cartoon movie about a whale that had three uvulas. The whale had a tenor, baritone and bass voice. I don't know what it was, but I was in awe of this animal that sounded like three opera singers. From that day on I fell in love with opera. I would scream all over the house at the top of my lungs in an attempt to sound as robust as the voices I had heard in the movie. Much later I would actually be able to sing in an opera, but that's another story. How about you, dear readers? When were you first bitten by the music bug? Idioms in the US and the UK

I had this discussion in one of my classes. My students were wondering whether there would be a great difference between the American idioms they learn and the ones used in the UK. I told them the obvious. Some would be common to both countries and some would be not. I found this website that has a very interesting list of English and American idioms. Check it out and comment on your findings. Some of them are pretty funny. Good for teachers and students.
